Me as a Writer

(Author’s Note: The first two paragraphs of this text have been transcribed verbatim from the original written text.)

More often than not, I tend to write in an academic setting. After all, we learn to write as students and improve upon our writing skills as we progress throughout t̶h̶e̶ u̶p̶p̶e̶r̶ g̶r̶a̶d̶e̶s̶ o̶f̶ s̶c̶h̶ middle school, high school, undergraduate programs, and graduate programs. Still, I use writing in a looser sense when I text someone, post on Instagram, or even write in the margins of a book I read for non-academic reasons, but an outright majority of my writing in terms of both sheer volume and scale is in an academic context.

My academic writing extends to all classes I have taken, including subject such as m̶a̶t̶h̶ statistics and biology that are not known for their writing among students. Regardless, a paper for my high school math classes or a lab report for science is writing. Writing in the more w̶e̶l̶l̶-̶k̶n̶o̶w̶n̶ traditional sense could be represented through my texts that I c̶r̶e̶a̶t̶e̶d̶ produced in philosophy, english, and history. Discussing Kant, Frankenstein, and Vichy France were some of my best works in my opinion.

(Author’s Note: All subsequent text was written after class.)

Overall, the value that I place on my academic writing and the amount of writing I have completed in an academic setting has influenced my overall writing style to have an academic tone. By saying this, I mean that my writing will often come off as more factual than emotional, but this still allows me to create persuasive works with a strong thesis.
