Studying Abroad? – 9/3

The opportunity to study in a foreign country has always appealed to me. I had, for a time, considered spending an entire semester abroad, but I didn’t want to commit to a longer term, so I decided that a summer program would be the best fit.

Shortly before entering Miller Forum, I realized that I was ill-prepared for this event, as I had arrived with very little time before my next class. Therefore, I was forced to make a quick decision and settle on a table to approach with little time to consider. I briefly flipped through the complimentary pamphlet that I had been handed before folding it in half, creased evenly along the middle, and placing it in my pocket. I then looked up in the busy room and approached the nearest table, eyeing the signs that read: “DIS Study Abroad in Scandinavia”.

As I began talking to the person standing on the opposite side of the table, she described how there were many programs in both Copenhagen and Stockholm for the spring and fall semesters. When I asked if there were summer programs, I was relieved to hear that there were a plethora of sessions available in the summer. However, I was not convinced that I would apply to the program when I heard this, and I am still apprehensive about this. Admittedly, the programs appealed to me, but after my first year in college, I am conflicted about whether or not I should spend the summer at home or venture to Sweden to learn about economics and political science.

Regardless of my internal distress, the final application deadline is many months away, so I have set these questions aside for now and instead focus on the remainder of this semester.
